The story on the dial
Two people can ask for the same painter and can receive two dials that do not resemble each other.
The theme is a starting point, not a template. The workshop's second Van Gogh does not take up the composition of the first: another work was chosen, another fragment, another ratio between sky and ground, other thicknesses of paint. The only thing inherited from the first piece was what was learned in making it.
If the second had resembled the first, neither would have been a one-off any longer. The workshop's rule is simple and has no exceptions: a finished composition is never taken up again.
