The story on the dial
Engraving has no eraser. A line cut wrongly stays cut, and the disc is thrown away and the work starts again.
So a hunting scene is drawn dozens of times on paper before it touches metal. Where the light falls is settled, which silhouette is in front, how deep each cut goes. Only after the drawing stops changing does it move onto silver.
What is seen in the end looks simple. The simplicity is what was left after everything superfluous was taken out.
