The client's theme, his own way of seeing

A craft learned alone, in a trade usually passed from master to apprentice.

An interview from August 2018, in which Augustin Matei calls himself a wristwatch designer. He talks about his training, church painting and architecture, and about the trades he went through: interior designer, furniture designer, garden designer.

About the work, he says the theme usually comes from the person who asks for the watch and then passes through his own way of seeing, and the idea usually takes longer than the making. One client waited almost a year, because Augustin did not yet feel ready for the piece he wanted.

He also says he has two watches of his own that he wears, one with Noah's Ark and one dedicated to King Michael, and that he would like to learn jewellery, ceramics and porcelain.
