Trajan's Column on a sheet of silver

What a working day looks like when a single surface asks for weeks.

An interview from May 2016, from the workshop's beginnings. Augustin Matei says it all started with a replica of a branded watch that a client showed him, at the time when he designed gardens, and that he taught himself, starting with a scene from Trajan's Column engraved on a sheet of silver.

After almost three years of attempts he showed his first watch online, inspired by Japanese culture. The first order came around Christmas, and the rest was built through social media.

The interview, published in the leadership section, looks at the craft as a career path: studies in church painting and architecture, then the design trades he went through.
