The road to the first dial
The road from icon painting to the dial, and the four years before the first finished piece.
A long interview from March 2022 about Augustin Matei's road to watches: an art high school, landscape architecture, church painting, two years as an interior designer, then, with the 2008 crisis, gardens, which he designed for nine years.
His first watch took him some four years from the idea, during which he taught himself by trial and error. Asked how he sees himself, he answers that he is an artist; his workshop is in Pucioasa.
The interview also names some of the people he has made pieces for, among them Jean-Claude Van Damme, Sylvester Stallone and Pope Francis.
